Accommodations
Accommodations are applied to the student and impact EVERY assessment in the course.
These provide students with extra time to complete any and all timed assessments and/or override all due dates. Accommodations are generally approved by Student Disability and Accessibility Support.
Exceptions
Exceptions are given to a student for a single assessment.
You'll use an exception to allow a student to turn an assessment in late, to make an assessment available to a student at a different time or allow additional attempts.
For example, if a student got sick and was not able take an exam during the window it was available, you would use an exception to make the test available to them and adjust the due date so that their submission is not penalized for being late. Or if a student had a technical issue that resulted in an early exit from an online exam, you may use an exception to provide them with an additional attempt.
Exemptions
Exemptions let the student not submit an assessment without penalty. You should only use an exemption if you are excusing a student from completing an activity.
