Enhancing Instructor Presence and Student Engagement Through Multimedia Content and Tools

Date/Time:
April 5, 2024, 12:00 PM
Location:
McN Library TLC - R324

During this session, we will explore strategies for incorporating multimedia content such as video and audio recordings into teaching practices; we will also outline several multimedia assignments students can complete (across the disciplines). By leveraging multimedia tools and content, instructors can enhance their presence in learning environments, foster community among students, provide effective feedback, and create opportunities for student engagement and reflection. We will begin by providing a general overview of several strategies and techniques before demonstrating how to implement them using the tools provided through the academic technologies. Participants will have time to engage in guided exploration of the recommended tools and strategies and brainstorm ideas for multi-media assignments at the end of the session.

Outcomes:

By the end of the session, participants will:

-Understand the pedagogical benefits of incorporating multimedia elements, such as video and audio recordings, to enhance instructor presence and foster a sense of community in online and hybrid learning environments.

-Explore effective strategies for integrating multimedia into various aspects of teaching, including providing feedback, facilitating discussions, and promoting student engagement and reflection.

-Develop practical skills in creating and utilizing multimedia content to personalize the learning experience, increase student motivation, prevent some forms of academic dishonesty, and optimize communication in all class modalities.
