After 40 years in partnership with Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Detroit Mercy is starting a new chapter at its Dental, Law, and McNichols campus bookstores, undergoing new management and operation with Follett Corporation. Follett has provided educational products and services for over 150 years. This shift in management brings about numerous benefits, including simple, streamlined processes, newly branded merchandise, and plans for an even stronger sense of University pride.
One of the most significant changes at the Detroit Mercy bookstores is the introduction of a more efficient textbook adoption and order placement system. With Follett’s dedicated offsite team managing all textbook and educational resource matters, on-site staff can focus on delivering an exceptional service experience. This new system ensures that if a textbook is physically out of stock, students can easily purchase it using its QR code, providing a seamless and contactless experience.
As a part of this transition, the McNichols store has undergone a total makeover with all new merchandise. A complete display is dedicated to Nike branded apparel (replacing our previous affiliate with Adidas). What’s even more exciting is new apparel is now inclusive to more athletic sports teams, such as lacrosse, soccer, and track and field, ensuring everyone can find something they love. Remember your badge as faculty and staff enjoy employee savings of ten percent off, and University departments receive twenty percent off savings on merchandise.
New plans are on the horizon to turn the engagement up a notch with Coffee on the Go offerings, Staff and Faculty Appreciation Days, events, and much more. The Follett Spirit Store will gladly facilitate events for faculty, particularly those interested in coordinating book signings for themselves or associated authors. Be on the lookout for an upcoming book signing at the McNichols location with Robert P. Jones, author of The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy and White Too Long. Follett Spirit Store is committed to bringing more engagement to the campus community.
As we welcome this new chapter, everyone is encouraged to stop by their local spirit store and explore all there is to offer. In addition, encouraging students to purchase texts and educational resources from the Follett stores helps to support the University ecosystem. All revenue generated contributes to the University’s overall success. Whether you need to connect with the offsite specialty team to discuss textbook adoptions or purchase new Detroit Mercy apparel just in time for Homecoming, consider the Follett Spirit Store the latest resource to enhance your community experience.
