Please Welcome Marion J. Tate to the University of Detroit Mercy!

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Marion J. Tate has joined the University of Detroit Mercy community as the Assistant Director for Educational Development at the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). Dr. Tate’s extensive experience, passion, and scholarly accomplishments are highly aligned with the CETL role and Detroit Mercy’s mission.

Dr. Tate holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, an MEd Bilingual/Bicultural Education from Wayne State University, an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Detroit Mercy, and a BA in English from the University of Michigan. Her extensive experience spans both higher education and K-12 settings, making her an invaluable addition to the CETL team.

As an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State University, Dr. Tate demonstrated exceptional ability in creating and delivering culturally and developmentally appropriate curricula across diverse student populations. In her capacity as a Consultant in the Office of Teaching and Learning, she provided one-on-one consultations to faculty members, assisting them in implementing innovative and research-based practices in course design, curriculum alignment, and the development of inclusive and engaging syllabi. 

In addition, as a Lead Teacher and Academic Coach at Loyola High School, she demonstrated exceptional leadership, resulting in significant improvements in student test scores and fostering positive attitudes among staff and students. Her assistance in lesson planning across various subjects, enhanced classroom management, and creation of inclusive learning environments achieved these outcomes.

Dr. Tate’s commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments is evident in her record of mentoring staff and advocating for student success. She has presented at numerous conferences, leadership colloquiums, retreats, and workshops, sharing her expertise with colleagues nationwide.

We are confident that Dr. Tate’s passion for education, diverse experiences, and strong skill set will significantly contribute to the University community’s success.
